Last non-Dutch Pilot
Captain Hurdman piloted his last KLM
flight this year. He was the last of the non-Dutch pilots who had played
such an important role in getting KLM off the ground in the post- war

Female flight attendants were given a
new uniform, their eighth since 1935. |

Junior Jet Lounge
A special playroom, the Junior Jet
Lounge, was opened for young travelers, entrusted to KLM's care. |

First female Purser
Anne-Marie van der Burg was the first
woman at KLM to be promoted to purser. |

747747 reservations
In 1985, KLM introduced its well known reservations and information telephone number 747 747. Recently, at the request of the Dutch PTT, seven digit telephone numbers were introduced and the prefix 4 was added. |

Airline of the Year
1986 began even better when 'Air Transport World' followed up the 1985 award by judging KLM 'Airline of the year'. This was also the year in which KLM took the Boeing 737 into service. |

from S. Orlandini as chief executive officer on September 1st. |
