First flight Indonesia
The success of the 1928 trial flights encouraged KLM to commence regular scheduled services every fortnight between The Netherlands and Indonesia. The first flight left on September 12th, 1929. The journey took 12 days. |

1931
First Jumbo freighter
Freight transportation has always played an important role at KLM. KLM's first 'jumbo'freighter appeared on the scene in 1931, a 'Carley Jumbo' produced jointly by the Dutch firms Pander and Werkspoor. |

1932
Fokker F-XVIII
The Fokker F-XVIII was added to the fleet in 1932. Stewards also appeared for the first time to look after passengers during flights. |

1933
PH-AIP Pelikaan flight
The aircraft which wrote history that year was a Fokker F-XVIII, PH-AIP 'Pelikaan', in which the legendary pilot Iwan Smirnoff chalked up a record return flight between The Netherlands and Indonesia. The aircraft departed on December 18th with Christmas mail for Indonesia and landed back at Schiphol on December 30th with New Years mail for the Netherlands. |

1934
All-metal Douglas DC-2
1934 was an eventful year for KLM. The company was the first in Europe to introduce the all-metal Douglas DC-2 to its fleet. Koene Dirk Parmentier successfully captained the DC-2 PH-AJU 'Uiver' in the London - Melbourne Race. Yet another historic flight, this time to be Americas, followed. Captain J.J. Hondong piloted Fokker F-XVIII PH-AIS 'Snip' across the Atlantic on the first flight to Curacao and Paramaribo. |

1935
First Stewards on board
The stewards were joined on board by female colleagues for the first time. |

1936
Successor DC-2 the DC-3
Once again KLM led the field in Europe, scoring another first with the successor to the DC-2, the DC-3. |

1937
Radio operator and steward
KLM increased frequencies on Indonesia
flights to three times a week. Service underwent considerable improvement
as a radio operator and a steward were added to the crew. |

1938
KNILM
In this year Royal Dutch East Indies Airlines (KNILM) linked the regular KLM services to Indonesia with Sydney, Australia. |
